The Afterparty Project strives to create safe, and compassionate spaces at music festivals, empowering individuals through harm reduction, survivor advocacy, and lasting connections to recovery.
Founded with roots in Charlotte, NC and Grand Rapids, MI, The Afterparty Project was born out of love for the music, the community, and the culture of festivals. After almost a decade in the scene and countless festivals across the U.S. (Including; Lost Lands, Electric Forest, Elements, Ubbi Dubbi, Bass Canyon, etc.), our founders saw a painful truth: while festivals celebrate connection, creativity, and freedom, too many people were left without support when facing substance challenges or the trauma of assault.
In 2025, The Afterparty Project was created to change that. We believe festivals should be safe, compassionate, and empowering spaces. By offering harm reduction, survivor advocacy, and connections to recovery, we’re filling the gaps that have gone unaddressed for far too long so we can continue to keep the community we love remaining inclusive, positive, and lasting for years to come.
Substance use is a reality at music festivals. Our team members and volunteers provide judgment-free education and support on drug side effects, safe use, overdose prevention, and recovery programs. We engage festival goers in open conversations that break stigma and spread knowledge.
Festivals can be overwhelming, and for some, unsafe. While some may party till the sun comes up, others may have an experience to end the party early. We operate designated safe spaces where anyone at risk or is a victim of harassment, assault, or abuse can find refuge. Our trauma-informed team members provide immediate support and connection, and access to vital supplies. Volunteers create a welcoming and engaging environment, attend sets and create a meaningful experience, and accompany individuals back to their group or camp if needed.
The music may stop, but our care doesn’t. We help individuals connect to recovery groups and support services in their hometowns, building pathways to lasting healing. With a growing database of national and local partners, we make sure no one has to return home alone in their struggle.
A bridge between short-term support and long-term care
